Director, Drug Discovery Laboratory

SUMMARY
Brii Bio is seeking a motivated leader to direct our growing drug discovery laboratory team. The individual will be responsible to head our state-of-the-art laboratory in the Global Health Drug Discovery Institute facilities in Beijing, China. The successful candidate will oversee a team of scientists focused on exploratory and discovery biology. The position requires experience as a scientific leader in a drug discovery organization as well as strong management skills. This role will be part of a broader global discovery leadership team focused on applying state-of-the-art platform technologies to find novel medicines. This position will be accountable for setting directions for laboratory activities to deliver experimental results across several drug discovery projects. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, in vivo animal models, vivarium operations and assay development including detection and analytical technologies. Additionally, experience characterizing diverse drug modalities including siRNA, mRNA, CRISPR, small molecules and antibodies is necessary. The candidate should have a proven track record of managing teams of scientists and technicians, including setting objectives and mentoring development opportunities. The candidate must have good organizational, writing and strong communication abilities in both Chinese and English and a demonstrated successful history of delivering drug candidates for clinical development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Leadership and management: Identify opportunities to implement novel platform technologies and innovation; Grow biological capabilities that enable and align objectives to advance new technologies and broader scientific vision
• Research oversight: Lead implementation of laboratory science to deliver exploratory and discovery strategic priorities; Develop evaluation plans to assess platform technologies and new drug modality areas of interest; Work cross-functionally in complex and fast-paced research organization
• Lab operations: Manage resource allocation across various drug discovery projects
Manage integration of internal and external scientific activities to optimize skill sets and capabilities
• Data Management: Ensure lab output meets the highest data integrity standards; Set an example for high integrity ensuring data is correctly interpreted and enable robust decision making; Drive integration of state-of-the-art LIMS technologies including use of electronic lab notebook across the organization
• Communication: Communicate with scientific and executive leaders; Represent Brii Bio Discovery both internally and externally at scientific meetings, and through high impact scientific communications
QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD or equivalent in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, chemistry or a related discipline with 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience.
• Experience leading a multidisciplinary team of scientists
• Performance management leadership and experience
• Understanding of advancing platform technology areas including CRISPR/Cas9, gene editing, oligonucleotide therapeutics, vector delivery methods, antibody drug conjugates, mRNA vaccines and bioinformatics systems
• Solid track record of leading teams to address challenging technical problems
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills and ability to work efficiently and productively in a dynamic, scientifically rigorous, and fast-paced environment.
