Principal Investigator, In Vivo Biology

SUMMARY
Brii Bio is seeking a skilled pharmacologist for our growing drug discovery team. The individual will be working in our state-of-the-art discovery laboratory and vivarium in Shanghai, China. The successful candidate for this position will be a pharmacology expert in his/her field and will play a critical role in pharmacological characterization of oligonucleotide-based therapeutics. The successful candidate will conduct in vivo studies in all phases of exploratory and discovery pharmacology and be required to work independently on a variety of animal pharmacology models to help screen, characterize and evaluate compounds. This role will be part of an experienced discovery team and offers the opportunity to develop new skills and obtain experience and expertise as part of a global multidisciplinary pharmaceutical research team.
The individual will have strong background in scientific research and organize, analyze and interpret results, come forward with recommendations and present the findings to senior personnel or in team meetings. This role will require working closely with a diverse discovery team to incorporate new technologies to facilitate the progression of novel preclinical candidates that allow for maximal therapeutic impact and differentiation for patients. Additionally, this position will be critical to the team to characterize novel biology as well as new drug candidates. Primary responsibilities will be in vivo-based activities to design and execute experimental animal studies, generate data and report results to a broad program team. Experience in handling and injecting rodents by various routes is required. Experience with tissue dissection, histological techniques, as well as other laboratory techniques is an advantage. Additionally, an ability to conduct assays and analyze data from the in vivo pharmacology experiments will be required. A deep knowledge of higher species in vivo pharmacology animal models will also be important. The candidate must have good organizational, writing and communication abilities to communicate results and ideas with other team members including non-scientists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage in vivo research activities.
 - Set goals and meet experimental animal study timelines and execute a strategy in alignment with the goals and key scientific objectives for the research.
 - Independently design, plan, and execute in vivo studies and analyze pharmacological, pharmacokinetic and toxicology results to address scientific questions.
 - Ensure all data and results are carefully documented in Brii electronic lab notebook systems.
 - Demonstrate creative ‘out of the box’ thinking to solve problems and modify experimental plans when required to achieve project goals.
 - Facilitate the characterization of disease pharmacology, for the development of novel scientific animal technologies and models with high translational relevance.
 - Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug, and animal care where applicable.
 - Prepare, and deliver scientific presentations for internal/external use.
 - Collaborate and manage external CRO teams.
 - Work cross-functionally in complex and fast-paced research organization.
 - Stay current with scientific literature and advancements in the field.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD, Master or equivalent in pharmacology, biology or a related discipline with above 4+ years of post-degree experience, preferably in industry.
 - Demonstrated track record of scientific industry research or publications.
 - Expertise in performing a variety of rodent and higher species (NHP etc.) in vivo behavioral and/or pharmacological assays.
 - Knowledge with hands-on in vivo experience in oligonucleotide drug discovery is required.
 - Proficiency with small animal handling, dosing compounds through a variety of different routes and tissue harvest is required.
 - Experience with histological techniques, including immunohistochemistry and microscopy techniques, as well as other laboratory techniques is a plus.
 - Experience leading in vivo drug discovery biology program as part of a larger research team is required.
 - Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
 - Solid track record of completing challenging technical problems, exemplified by publication of research in high-quality scientific journals or cases in animal studies.
 - Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills and ability to work efficiently and productively in a dynamic, scientifically rigorous, and fast-paced environment.
